Was something in the air that night
As rain dark streets were pools of light
And people did their best to keep inside
A magic veil, a tollin' bell

The place was dark it always was
That kind of place, there's always cause
The reasons for it nursed their tepid pints

I never understood the art of telling
Back as front and black as shades of green
I never understood the art of selling
A third hand cell phone of expired warranty

So I found myself an empty seat
Up at the bar, my set routine
And kept you in the corner of my eye
The only well lit place to choose

Time roll slow and time runs free
And it's speedin' in good company
And friends of friends can be helpers in disguise

I never understood the hidden language
They must've taught it when I sagged off school
One more score set in my disadvantage

Closing time comes swift and true
