SHADY ANGEL'S SMILE
Was something in the
air that night
As rain dark streets were pools of light
And people did their best to keep inside
A magic veil, a tollin' bell
A forgotten god's inspired spell And
Lady, you're the Shady Angel's Smile
The place was dark it
always was
That kind of place, there's always cause
The reasons for it nursed their tepid pints
But patience stays the final race
And through the dark I saw your face and
Lady you're the Shady Angels' Smile
I never understood the
art of telling
Back as front and black as shades of green
I never understood the art of selling
A third hand cell phone of expired warranty
So I found myself an
empty seat
Up at the bar, my set routine
And kept you in the corner of my eye
The only well lit place to choose
I couldn't see how I couldn't lose and
Lady you're the Shady Angel's Smile
Time roll slow and time
runs free
And it's speedin' in good company
And friends of friends can be helpers in disguise
So ride the rain and brave the storm
Miracles aren't lightly born and
Lady you're the Shady Angel's Smile
I never understood the
hidden language
They must've taught it when I sagged off school
One more score set in my disadvantage
And curse the man proclaiming "Blessed are the fools!"
Closing time comes swift
and true
And usually it comes too soon
But just this once it managed perfect time
We walked beneath a mist of lights
Dawn soft in the depths of night and
Lady you're the Shady Angel's Smile
I've painted sidewalks
before the rain
Bet on ponies long restrained
Never was prepared for the surprise
Of having all my prayers reply
Wanting to sit by my side and
Lady you're the Shady Angel's Smile
