Sanctuary

Sirens wail & mad men rail
From a beast with no tail & no head
My body aches & though wide awake
I can't shake the feeling I'm dead

Captive careering between cut glass & steel
Where red hot's turned bloodshot & gun metal blue
& the clamour & din & the dark pierce your skin
& the faith that you still have a clue

Then flown from the midst
Of the cold concrete kiss
The sound of a sweet violin
Fly tunes without pardon
From some ancient garden
A Sanctuary from the din

& the grey geese hoot
On the wings of a flute
& the winds calmly brush on your skin
& the gun metal case
Has no chance to erase
That it just let an open heart in

But though soul's soarin' high for the sun in the sky
You know all good things must come to an end
& though the music is done, you've been hailed to the sun
& you won't land the same way again

                               All the instruments packed
& the players are shacked
For a beer where they don't let the shade in
& all left out there
Is one empty chair
& a square for the pigeons to play in
