The Emerald Thief

Come into town on a broken leg
Slip in the door for an open keg
Draw life from the open tap
Did a double back flip & that was that
Now I'm lost beneath the moonlight
In the dark between the street lights
All I rocked was my belief
& my heart's held by a thief
&I want it back

One ear hears & one eye sees
Brain's advertising vacancies
Step the alleys dark & grey
For a hint of light & a glimpse of day
I've traveled far just to forget
& it hasn't paid off yet
Miles of rain for dry relief
F
or the heart & for the thief
& I want it back

Joined up with a hen night
just to find a sharpened pen knife in the back
Called upon the ambulance
they came, they cast a glance & retraced their tracks
Called upon the cops to come
To find who'd stabbed me, turned & run like hell
They said the prints were made by me
Fined me for vagrancy & left

I guess it could be a whole lot worse
I really shouldn't feel this cursed
If only I could lose the blinds
On the one who swiped my heart that time
I don't want the hip & cute
I don't want a substitute
Keep the heart & keep the sight
Just send the robber from the night
'Cause I want her back
